KL City Centre (KLCC)

If you plan on experiencing the buzzing nightlife of Kuala Lumpur, these are perfect stays to park yourselves at. From here, you can easily walk (5-20 mins) to nearby malls and the availability of public transport makes it convenient for your every shopping and dining needs – connecting you further to Bukit Bintang, Chinatown, Chow Kit, Pudu and more!

1. Swim to infinity with views of the iconic twin towers and KL Tower – Platinum Suites by Victoria Home (from RM 33 per pax)

If your priority when visiting Kuala Lumpur is to feast your eyes on the beautiful skyline of the city, it’s mandatory for you to consider a stay at Platinum Suites by Victoria Home.

Imagine walking into a lavish room, welcomed by a floor-to-ceiling window that overlooks the stunning Petronas Twin Towers that stand proudly among uncountable skyscrapers. Now moving on to your bedroom, the view does not disappoint either as you get to take in the panoramas right from your bed! Lucky are my friends who stayed in the master bedroom but I was equally happy to opt for the smaller bedroom option which was extra cozy. We stayed at their Platinum 2 Bedroom Apartment with City View and did not regret!

Most of the days we spent at Platinum Suites began at sunrise when we headed down to the infinity pool to gaze at the ball of fire gently rising right in between the Twin Towers – what a blessing! We were there as early as 7am and the crowd was already getting overwhelming but hear us, early morning is your best bet if you too want to get that picture for the gram! (Our view of the Twin Towers was sadly partially obstructed by a crane when we were there, so do check with Victoria Home about the view before you book!)

At night, the scene is also magical as you can look out to the sparkling city lights with both the Twin Towers and KL Tower giving out their best light show!

With so much to see and do around, we explored the best of Kuala Lumpur before getting back to our comfortable apartment and enjoying the property’s facilities. I also dreamt of having my family with me – what an ideal stay for a reunion, plus they also provide extra mattresses and pillows for bigger groups!

From here, you can easily walk to the nearby train stations, malls and a 24-hour local eatery – Pelita Nasi Kandar. You’ll also find restaurants within the Platinum Suites building or you can walk to the nearby Mercu Summer Suites for a 24-hour convenience store!

2. Stay in a modern NY-loft inspired apartment – Anggun Residence (from RM 78 per pax)

Accommodating up to six guests, Anggun Residence is truly something else. In fact, it opened its doors at the beginning of 2019 so every unit here is still in perfect condition. The residence is set in a serene alley off KL City Centre (not far from the Sheraton Imperial Hotel).

Besides featuring super-advanced amenities (they have digital Samsung doors for every unit), the interiors of the stays quite feel like every #housegoal from your Pinterest board. Rooms have an airy open plan set up and are decorated with contemporary wooden furniture that bring that feeling of warmth and comfort to your home-away-from-home.

Your unit also comes equipped with a stunning kitchen but sadly none include a balcony (so smokers take note!). And if you’re here with family, you’ll be happy to know that they also have a small playground for the kids too!

The real appeal here is the pool which overlooks the beautiful KL Tower and KLCC Twin Towers – best enjoyed at night as the tower lights up in rainbow colours. The high rise building also allows for amazing sunset views!

Nearby, you’ll find a row of cafes and chill pubs along Jalan Doraisamy and other dining options within Chow Kit, while you can also take a short walk to the nearby Quill City Mall (5 minutes and you’re there) or further to KLCC within 20 minutes.

3. Sleep by the majestic twin towers – Soho Suites (from RM 59 per pax)

Just 10 minutes’ walk from KLCC Twin Towers and 8 minutes’ walk to Pavillion Mall, you’ll find the well-located Soho Suites. If you ask me, this is an actual steal as it further connects you easily to Bukit Bintang as well.

While your unit can sleep up to 9 guests, I can assure you that you can invite up to 15 of your friends, at least to share meals/drinks and have some fun games in the common living room – it’s spacious and has lots of seatings (also ideal if you have an extended family – you know, when your parents want to invite all your aunts and uncles).

What’s more? You get sweeping views of the gigantic Twin Towers from every bedroom too! Head down and find yourself surrounded by pubs, restaurants, cafes, convenience stores and more (including our favourite pork ribs spot – Naughty Nuri’s).

If you’d like to stroll around the local neighbourhood, you can walk to the ever-so-popular Jalan Alor Street Food Night Market (and further to the clubs and bars along Changkat) in just 20 minutes.

Bukit Bintang

Up-scale malls and luxe fashion boutiques are what make Bukit Bintang so very popular. It is regarded as the entertainment district of Kuala Lumpur and features a collection of al-fresco bars and pubs too. Thanks to its central location, it is relatively easy to get to Bukit Bintang from anywhere in Kuala Lumpur via public transport. In the same area, you’ll find the ever-so-popular Jalan Alor with a collection of local food stalls. Don’t miss the Chinese seafood dishes here before finishing the night around Changkat’s best night clubs and rooftop bars!

4. You’ll be surrounded by over 5 famous shopping malls! – Tribeca Serviced Suite by Victoria Home (from RM 50 per pax)

Have you heard of KL’s Golden Triangle? It’s basically an acronym for the city’s main shopping and nightlife district – it encompasses a number of famous main streets that serve as a real entertainment hub to locals and tourists alike.

They’ve seriously thought about it all as you simply have to take the lift down to their lobby area for a superb dining experience at their restaurant – Wizards (I highly recommend their pulled beef pasta!).

And when it’s time to head out, you can take a leisurely stroll to the nearby malls such as Pavillion (branded items), Low Yat (all of your tech products), Sungei Wang and Berjaya Times Square (affordable clothes). There’s also a row of local food spots along Jalan Imbi itself.

5. Grab this Dorsett experience for as low as RM 38 per person! – Dorsett Residence at Bukit Bintang (from RM 38 per pax)

I have been living in Kuala Lumpur for over 6 years and I can tell you that getting around the city centre is pretty easy – there’s a bunch of ride-hailing apps and public transportation connecting to the main hotspots; but of course it gets even more convenient when you opt for a stay that’s smack bang in the middle of everything.

And while room rates at prime locations are usually quite high, Dorsett Residence at Bukit Bintang enables you to stay with the feels of a luxury hotel but at half the price of what you would pay for at a hotel! Absolute steal, right?!

This specific unit listed sleeps up to 7 guests – although it only has two bedrooms, they provide additional mattresses so you can crash a whole new version of your old-time pyjama parties! Plus, it’s got the luxe suite feels too!

Now about the facilities, you’ll have access to a stunning sky pool with partial views of the KLCC Twin Towers and plenty of space to lounge around during the day. Oh, but why stay in when you’re so very conveniently located a short 3-minute walk from the nearby Pavillion and the ever-so-lively street of Bukit Bintang?!

6. This cute apartment will spice up your social media feed! – Taragon 31 (from RM 31 per pax)

We’ve certainly talked about location, affordability and the spectacular views that some Airbnb listings offer around Kuala Lumpur but this one right here also serves up super cute interiors!

Not sure how things could get any better as when you opt for a stay at this loft suite, you’re not only based at one of KL’s top hotspot but you also get to level up your Insta feed – it gets tropical and colourful in here! You’ll be paying less than RM 250 (approximately S$82) per night for the entire apartment, that’s under RM 32 (approximately S$10) per person per night! I’m sold!!

Accommodating up to 8 guests (two of you get mattresses), free secured parking lot and access to other facilities (swimming pool, gym, sauna, children’s playground), this little home right here is the ideal spot for your annual family gathering. Just bear in mind that no smoking is allowed in the loft!

On the outside, you’re set right by Berjaya Times Square, which is where you’ll spend most of your time shopping for affordable clothing, while Petaling Street (Chinatown) is less than 30 minutes’ walk away (tip: there are more than 5 hidden bars around KL’s Chinatown!).

7. For tropical vibes right in the middle of the city! – The Robertson Residence (from RM 40 per pax)

Find refuge at this peaceful and cosy home-away-from-home all the while being located within walking distance from KL’s top landmarks, including the ever-lively food paradise of Jalan Alor (some food stalls remain open 24 hours)!

As you lounge comfortably on the couch, you get to relish stunning views of the iconic KL Tower which lights up beautifully at night. This particular unit stole our hearts as it boasts fresh tropical vibes with plants and ferns scattered around the rooms, bringing a whole new experience to city living; plus, it isn’t unreasonably priced for a stay that fits up to 7 guests!

This high rise building is equipped with a sky lounge on its 46th floor where you can all gather and enjoy splendid city panoramas after taking a dip in the gorgeous lagoon pool.

And once again, you’re within walking distance to the main street of Bukit Bintang with tons of shops and eateries! In fact, previous guests frequently comment about the convenient location; even better, despite being in the thick of it, it’s pretty quiet and peaceful.

8. Live in a 2-level penthouse with exclusive rooftop garden and jacuzzi! – Seri Bukit Ceylon Residence (from RM 91 per pax)

If you want to get a taste of the “Crazy Rich Asian” life, this is where you begin! We’ve done some in-depth searching and scrolling for those of you who want a staycation that gives you more perks that just a stunning swimming pool – now, are you ready for this?

Sit down and take a deep breath as you’re about to spend the night in a comfortable two-level penthouse with exclusive access to a rooftop garden and … *drumroll*… jacuzzi! Now, if this isn’t the best deal ever, I don’t know what is! If I’m celebrating my birthday or hen’s night, I’d pick this one with no second thoughts!

I mean, just picture this – up to seven of your favourite girls, some bubbles in a glass and lots of laughter as you soak in the jacuzzi and enjoy the comfort of a spacious penthouse (almost like a whole house).

This little gem right here is also smartly located less than 20 minutes walk from Petaling Street where you can get your hands on some “fake” goodies – Gucci, Dior, Louis Vuitton, you name it!

At night, don’t miss a fun dinner out at Pisco Bar – one of KL’s most liked bars that’s conveniently located 5 minutes away from your stay.

KL South

While this area isn’t very popular among tourists, it’s very likely that you will want to stay at KL South to escape from the city centre’s high prices on accommodation and food. There’s relatively not many attractions around but you’ll have easy access to the malls and luck is on your side if you’re planning a fun night out as there are often concerts held at the nearby Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

9. Stay smack-bang in the middle of two big cities! – Verve Suites by Victoria Home (from RM 28 per pax)

When a quick Google search for “KL South” links you directly to Verve Suites, you know that you’re in for some good accommodation recommendation here.

For those of you who are a little lost on where KL South is really at – well, to put it shortly, it is a quaint little township between KL City Centre and Petaling Jaya, so from here you can really experience three city areas all-at-once!

First thing first, there’s something rather unique about Verve Suites’ architecture – the two towers are linked by a sky bridge, but it isn’t just any bridge as this one features a sky gym, yoga zone, theatrette, cafe, chill zone, lounge and more!

Opting for a stay here gives you the convenience of being near The Scott Garden – a mall with an array of shops and dining facilities. Or you can simply take a walk down Old Klang Road and Jalan Kuchai Lama for other local street food options!

Life around KL South is a little more laid-back than at KL City Centre but you’ll also find lots of entertainment around. In fact, it’s one ideal place to park yourself at if you’re travelling with family and want to see and experience something different from the usual Twin Towers. This particular modern unit accommodates up to 6 people with extra mattresses provided!

Petaling Jaya

Plan to cafe-hop around hipster cafes and gulp down lots of local food throughout your trip to KL? Petaling Jaya is one hip little town to base yourself at. It’s also relatively less buzzing than KL City Centre. Petaling Jaya itself is divided into different areas, extending to Damansara and Aman Suria where you’ll find flashier infrastructures but it is also easy to reach the city centre within a few minutes’ drive.

10. Stay right by Paradigm Mall (shuttle bus available from airport!) – Azure Residences by Victoria Home (from RM 31 per pax)

If there’s something that often rhymes with Petaling Jaya, it is the traffic along the LDP highway (where you can seriously get stuck for hours!). Luckily, opting for a stay at Azure Residences enables you to skip the bottleneck as the turn-off into Paradigm Mall on either side of the LDP does not require you to go through this horrible area!

Not only this but the location is super central and you can take a short walk to the nearby Tesco Supermarket to stock up on munchies – you can even push your shopping cart all the way back to your apartment as it’s connected to the Paradigm Mall via a bridge!

There are different units to accommodate different party sizes, with the biggest one sleeping up to 7 guests comfortably. You also get to enjoy splendid city views from the pool and there’s also a kids’ pool for the little ones!

Bangsar

Like nightlife and entertainment? Bangsar might be the ideal area for your getaway! Throughout the recent years, the district has seen a rapid mushrooming of night clubs, bars, pubs and bistros along its streets; namely in Telawi and Maarof. No weekend passes by where there’s no partying in Bangsar. You’ll also find Bangsar Shopping Centre and Bangsar Village for all your shopping while Mid Valley Mall is also very accessible!

11. One that belongs to your Pinterest house inspiration board – Suasana Sentral Loft Condominium (from RM 73 per pax)

Get your camera ready for this gem of an Airbnb right here – this is what we call one Instagrammable stay!

The interiors at this unit are simply stunning, with a mix of minimalist and Nordic decor, plus how beautiful is this giant colourful world map that hangs on the wall! Really, this simply brings out the wanderlust in me. This place simple, has natural touches and the warm colour tones give this extra comfy vibe to the whole unit.

A stay here brings you the convenience of being in KL Sentral – a travel hub in Kuala Lumpur. This is also where you’ll find the main train station that links you up to other hotspots around the city and further (on exchange lines). All your shopping and eating desires can be easily satisfied at the nearby NU Sentral as well!

With three bedrooms, this amazing unit sleeps up to 6 guests who will have access to all facilities including the swimming pool, jacuzzi, gym, gaming room and more! You’re surely in for a memorable stay!

Mont Kiara / Sri Hartamas/ Solaris

Enjoy an expatriate kind of life in Mont Kiara and Sri Hartamas – one of Kuala Lumpur’s most desirable neighbourhoods that is extremely family-friendly and popular with Korean and Japanese expat families (it is also where most international schools are located at)

Renowned to be a safe and convenient area, this is where you get to experience the mini-Singapore of KL (though it is very likely that you’ll get caught in some miles of traffic after school hours and working hours). In the area, you’ll be able to find multiple malls, restaurants (especially authentic Japanese eateries), cafes and entertainment spots that cater to the international crowd.

12. Stay with a view of the royal palace – Dorsett Residences Sri Hartamas (from RM 27 per pax)

Rooftop swimming pool, kids’ club for the littles ones, sky terrace Thai dining experience – these are a few perks you’ll benefit from when choosing to reside at Dorsett Residences Sri Hartamas.

This stunning unit that accommodates up to 6 people and comes with a fully-equipped kitchen too. And what a beautiful marbled bathroom! We were left with no words when we saw how affordable this is – especially considering that you’ll be receiving exclusive hotel hospitality!

From here, one can even enjoy spectacular views of the twin towers from afar and the majestic royal palace will guard you throughout your stay!

Right across the street is where you’ll have access to Hartamas Shopping Centre with tons of dining options to choose from if you aren’t keen for the unique dining experience offered on the 27th floor of the Residences – seriously though, who can say no to Thai food at a sky terrace restaurant right where they live? (Psst… And you might want to check their Eatigo deals for weekday mornings – some of us enjoyed 50% discounts here and it’s very worth it!)

Bandar Sunway /Subang Jaya

Known as the student township of Malaysia, this is where you’re most likely to find hipster cafes, affordable food courts, a world-renowned theme park and surprise surprise… a bubble tea street! If you want to mingle around with the young crowd, this is definitely where you should spend a few days at.

You can shop your day away at the nearby Sunway Pyramid, enjoy ice-skating and so much more! There are also bars in the area (of course, very popular among university students). If you ask me, it’s a cool area to hang out at if you want to meet people from different backgrounds and countries as there are also lots of international students staying around!

13. Stay right in a mall – Resort Suites Hotel Bandar Sunway (from RM 48 per pax)

There’s one main reason for people to choose to stay in Sunway – the exciting Sunway Lagoon theme park! With a good bunch of friends, you’re guaranteed the best of times on some thrilling rides! What’s more, it is all interconnected with the nearby mall, Sunway Pyramid, which further brings you to Resort Suites – a thriving accommodation option that brings you the best of the Sunway community facilities.

Think of it – you can take a few steps to the mall, theme park, cafes in the surrounding, medical centre and more, while the BRT takes you further around too.

This particular unit here is colourful and comes with a well-appointed kitchen,and fully-equipped bathroom – it sleeps up to 6 guests with a spacious king bed, one single bed, one bunk bed and an extra mattress is also provided.

14. There’s a sandy beach-inspired swimming pool here! – La Costa (from RM 74 per pax)

Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, wait; that’s really not the deal here – check in at La Costa and enjoy world-class perks that include a sandy resort-style beach pool and spectacular lake view!

As a temporary resident of La Costa, you can also make use of the free shuttle service that runs all day (you can simply track the bus from this app on your phone) to access other areas of this communal little town – Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway Pyramid Mall, Sunway Lagoon Theme Park and more are at your fingertips!

If there’s something you can be sure of, it is the safety and security of the area – having stayed there for a couple of years, I can tell you that I have not felt safer in any other area of KL (that means I could even walk around alone at 9pm!).

That’s not it, La Costa also gives you exclusive access to the nearby lake where you can enjoy a jog in peace (there are a few monitor lizards though). Scenery is beautiful there – one you would never imagine in the middle of a city and it is surely best enjoyed at sunset!
