1. Bali jungle oasis steps away from the city – Tamarind Springs

The moment we stepped into this place, we felt instantly transported to the jungles of Ubud in Bali. Just a minute ago, we were parking near the bustling main road but when we turned into the restaurant compound, a gentle peace dawned upon the entire place, with thick canopies that shielded us from the sounds of traffic and stone statues that greeted us as we walked down the steps to the dining area.

Photo Via Elly K, Atsuko

With a jungle-facing fish pond and outdoor seatings under thatched roofs, we really felt like we were dining in the middle of the jungle!

They serve Indochine cuisine here, which means you can take your pick from Thai, Cambodian, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Laotian cuisine and so on. We settled down for dinner on a jungle-facing seating, and ordered A Symphony of Starters, so we could try a bit of all their starters! After which, we ordered Traditional Khmer Stir-Fried Chicken with Eggplant, Lemongrass in Basil Leaves and Stir-Fried Eggplant in Chinese White Wine, both of which were very flavourful and delicious.

Photo Via Candyice, Herman_peter, Nurjamie

They serve a variety of Cambodian, Vietnamese and Laotian curries too. And don’t forget to refresh yourself with a cold glass of lemongrass drink – it gets pretty hot and humid at night, but our initial fear of mosquitoes was unfounded. They had their natural repellent on strong blast so even though us mosquito magnets were there for a good one-and-a-half hours, we left unscathed.

We were here for a birthday celebration, and this place is really for a special occasion; they can even help you do a romantic set-up with rose petals on your table! Time to hint to your partner about your next anniversary celebration! 😉

2. Unwind with a view of the KL Twin Towers – DeepBlue

Located in the outrageously scenic Platinum Suites KL (The FACE Suites), DeepBlue keeps up with stunning city views! Though its name might be more associated with the “best rooftop bars” in KL, the venue surely is one romantic spot for a glamorous candlelit dinner close enough to home!

Now, we mentioned about the stunning views of the KL Tower and KLCC Twin Towers, as DeepBlue is set on the 51st floor of the high-rise condominium.

3. Bask in incredible skyline views and comfort food! – Blackbyrd KL

What’s the point of going on a date night out if both of you only get to stare at your plates? True it could be fine dining with beautifully executed dishes but one way to up the ante is to go for a ground-dwelling joint with jaw-dropping views of the beautiful city.

Photo Via Queeny__lim, Yincci

The contemporary restaurant serving comfort food in style (read: wagyu beef satay) soars up high on the 50th floor of a building and takes the concept of “haute cuisine” to searing heights!

Photo Via Juliuslimwm, Ng_yong

Now, if there’s something about fine dining that I ain’t a fan of, it has to be the portion. Most of the time, food served is for one single bite, but not when it comes to the dishes at Blackbyrd. In fact, that’s what they believe in – a concept they master so very well as they ensure you never leave feeling hungry (P.S. Anyone else had to run to McD after a fine dining session? I did!).

Photo Via Uyeying, Gannicholas, Surprise.melur, Nikkiekhoo

Opened to the public in 2019, it didn’t take long before Blackbyrd made it to the bucket list of romantic couples looking for a glamourous hangout spot with spectacular city views. Scenic panorama aside, Blackbyrd serves up some really good short ribs (which they call “Iga Bakar Sambal Idjo”) so if the way to your lover’s heart is through his/her stomach, you know what to begin with!

4. What’s more romantic than taking a trip to Europe with your lover? – Bistro Richard at Sentul Park

Wherever you sit at this restaurant, the vibes are bound to transport you on a whirlwind romance. Specialising in European cuisine, you’re sure to tuck into something delicious at Bistro Richard, be it an exquisite set of French snail Escargots or Spanish Seafood rice (Paella). Even their tables are beautifully covered in red and white checkered linens to resemble classic Parisian bistros!

Photo Via Bistro-Richard-at-Sentul-Park, Bistro-Richard-at-Sentul-Park, Kennythien

On the outside, the cute little eatery is decorated with fairy lights turning it into what looks like the little bungalows you can find at Christmas markets all around Europe.

And while you can settle down at the indoor seating space, I’d consider the shaded alfresco area for an intimate dinner; that way you can soak in all the romantic feels by the lake as you’re surrounded with greenery!

5. Sit face-to-face with the majestic Twin Towers! – Horizon Grill at Banyan Tree

Where better to admire sweeping views of KL’s skies than dining high above the city and facing the iconic Twin Towers?

Horizon Grill on Level 58 of the Banyan Tree hotel is a much-loved star of KL’s skyline. And, it does not have only its name as the alfresco restaurant serves up fresh seafood and meat grills! What’s more, they even have private dining rooms in case you’re here to celebrate a special occasion – like if you want to get down on one knee to pop the big question. 😉

6. KL’s first seafood-in-the-sky restaurant – Cielo

Arguably, there’s no better time to go on a romantic escape than at sunset and that’s exactly when you want to drop by Cielo – KL’s one and only seafood rooftop restaurant where you can take full advantage of views over the horizon, all the while enjoying a stellar meal with your sweetheart.

Craft cocktails, grill and seafood creations are what Cielo outdoes but the venue also wins it when it comes to comfy lounge vibes. Whatever you do, make sure you ask very nicely for a table overlooking the TRX Tower.

7. Dine by a glittering lake (yes possible in KL!) – Secret of Louisiana at The Lake

With endless views of a lake smack bang in the middle of the city, Secret of Louisiana could offer you a basic 7-11-inspired tuna sandwich and you’d be happy as a clam. But no, not to be outdone, the food here is as comforting as the setting – the restaurant serves up Cajun style cuisine which surprisingly seems to be rare in Malaysia!

On a clear day, you might want to ask to sit outside by the lake but remember you have to call in for a reservation as seats by the water are limited! The venue accommodates over 250 people so if you’re already planning your big day, here’s a place to consider too!

8. Escape on a getaway within KL – Tamarind Hill

A romantic meal out of the city is a surefire way to seduce your lover, but it seems like you don’t have to go that far anymore as Tamarind Hill could well be the one to really impress!

The stunning restaurant is nestled away on a hilltop right in KL – smack bang on the ever-so-popular Jalan Sultan Ismail and is surrounded by skyscrapers. Who knew there was such a hidden gem in the middle of the city!

9. Enjoy oriental bliss on a hilltop – FOOK KL

New on the romantic scene (as of 2019), you’ll find FOOK KL perched on a hilltop (the same as Tamarind Hills) – it’s everything you expect a restaurant serving innovative, delicious food to be.

Photo Via Cmuntan, Yiheng30

For such a nice setting and decor, it’s an absolute deal when it comes to a date night out – the venue boasts fun aesthetic and chic modern stylings while being adorned by enormous eclectic paintings that depict the same East Asian influences you’ll find in their menu.

10. Eat out of a vintage colonial house! – Pampas Old Malaya Kapitan Bar

When it comes to hidden gems in Kuala Lumpur, not only does Pampas’ location overlooking the iconic KL Tower make it cosy but the intimate venue is also beautifully set in one of the most stunning heritage structures you can find around the city – it’s like going back to the golden days!

Photo Via Michorie, Shenggiapchia

You heard right, just like how creatively revamped the shophouses in Petaling Street have been turned into, this century old building has been brought back to life and converted into a charming steakhouse!

Photo Via Decor_cinta, Lynnsbakeryy

I highly recommend you to begin your date with an intimate moment at their outdoor patio (weekends see a live band too) where you can sip drinks before moving inside for a memorable dinner. Now, if you are looking to save your purse from any kind of suffering, they have an array of dishes that aren’t necessarily steak. Their salmon for instance could well be a winner!

Photo Via Josephtanme, Rachelseaah

But if you don’t mind splurging a bit more on your date, I’d personally advise you to try their steak – you can choose your sauce and pair it with some red wine and you’re all set to impress. 😉

11. For fun couples! A 3D projection dining experience – Tropical Colada at ELEMENTS KL

This one right here isn’t necessarily for the food on the menu but rather for the whole experience in itself. Tropical Colada uses 3D projection to bring food to life and offers a unique storytelling experience as you embark on a culinary adventure! Now, how exciting is that? Even better when you share it with your precious one!

Photo Via Jelyta_syuhada, Wanlitang
Photo Via Fangfang95

The experience is pretty much the same as Le Petit Chef (a popular projection dining experience in London and is also available in KL) but Tropical Colada offers a shorter form of the show and it’s also less likely to break the bank!

Your culinary tour begins with a five minute projection of high-tech trick-of-the-eye which tells a delicious tabletop story that ends up with a three-course meal and a cocktail.
