Finally! You’ve put a ring on her/him and now that it is official, it’s time to escape from all the wedding stress you’ve possibly gone through! This trip marks the beginning of your married life is meant to be relaxing but also a little fun after all!

And it’s true that your honeymoon is the ultimate excuse to invest in a trip you’d otherwise never splurge on but most ultimate honeymooners’ paradises don’t necessarily let you recover from your wedding expenses – they’re hella pricey to get to and let alone enjoy (think: The Maldives, Bora Bora, Fiji or even Bali and Thailand).

Now, how about considering your first honeymoon (yes, because you can have one every year), right within Malaysia? Sounds boring, isn’t it? Not until you get to see those stunning resorts and villas that look absolutely nothing like the Malaysia you know.

Time to ditch your passport (if you are travelling from West Malaysia) and the stress of international travel (power converters, translation guides, and what so) as these beautiful stays will transport you on a world tour to foreign countries and make you feel like you’re stranded on a pristine secluded island or Amazonian jungle!

And the best part is that some are affordable and absurdly romantic!

1. Get a pre-taste of the Maldives! – The Ritz Carlton, Langkawi

Nothing rhymes better with “honeymoon” than “The Maldives”, am I right? But nothing rhymes better with “The Maldives’ than “Crazy Rich Asians” too! This is when you want to look a little closer to home, save on the flight cost and splurge a little more on the stay while still enjoying magical scenery!

For all of those looking for fun, romance and probably butler service by the pool, I give you Ritz Carlton, Langkawi – a five-star luxury experience, fit for couples looking for an exclusive escape!

Photo Via Alexpreview, Asviagenturasdeje, Papiramu

Stepping into the resort is like a feast for the senses – you’re not only set in a 10-million-year-old rainforest but you’re also at the edge of the Andaman Sea bridging Malaysia and Thailand, giving you hundreds of possibilities to hike through the jungles or relax on a sunlounger whenever your heart desires.

Whether you settle down in one of their rooms, suites or villas, you can be sure to have equally remarkable service from the on-site staff. Again, the choice is yours so follow your heart – their rooms get you close to the wild outdoors while villas let you taste uninterrupted views of the sea. A feast for the eyes, no matter what!

2. Find romance under the tropics! – Japamala Resort Pulau Tioman (Tioman Island)

While it seems like Pulau Tioman caters and attracts the diving crowd, it does not mean that the island doesn’t provide for those looking for more privacy, romance and luxury! You can still enjoy all of those aspects; that is if you opt for the right place to stay of course.

One that doesn’t disappoint is Japamala Resort, a splashy oceanfront enclave spoiling couples with their scenic chalets set in the jungle or by the sea and where you can spend your holiday daydreaming by your lover’s side. It’s an abode for newlyweds who seek pampering, rest and relaxation over action and excitement.

The island scene here is pretty laid-back and the rule is to just chill out; that’s all you want when on your honeymoon after all, am I right? You’ll be anyway so obsessed with the views from the resort that you won’t be able to take your eyes off!

4. Go a little closer to Thailand – Tanjung Rhu Resort (Langkawi)

Not only is Tanjung Rhu Resort close to the Land of Smiles (Thailand), thanks to the Andaman Sea, but the surrounding scenery also transports you away from Malaysia with beautiful jungle-covered limestones popping out of the ocean!

The inner island-girl in me believes that one should at least give a chance to a beachfront honeymoon, plus it’s the ultimate occasion to don your sexy swimsuit too and what better place than to do so at Tanjung Rhu Resort?

Photo Via Amtxa, Ayuehazalieu, Vav_anna, Colorshockexpression

5. Wake up to a sea of clouds in the highlands! – The Lakehouse Cameron Highlands

Step into The Lakehouse Cameron Highlands and be transported to a little storybook cottage! It’s a magical experience to begin your fairytale at this English-style old-house that’s located right in Malaysia and bound to bring you back to another era.

And as though it did not look British enough – the biggest lure here is that it sits on top of a lush green hill where you can enjoy chilly weather in the highlands, a stunning lake view and an endless sea of clouds in the early morning!

8. Find a slice of Jaipur (India) right in Penang! – Eastern & Oriental Hotel (Penang)

This century-old hotel in the heart of Georgetown is an exceptional hideaway, far removed from reality and the perfect place to relish each other’s company. It makes for an absurdly romantic setting that brings you back in time.

And though it originally pays homage to the Bristin colonial era, I like to think of it as a slice of Jaipur (India) right in Penang – blame it on the oriental accents that are both elegant and charming, similar to the heritage buildings in the land of Bollywood!

There’s something special about Eastern & Oriental Hotel, and even more after it’s officially opened its Heritage Wing (an expansion as at December 2019). If you ask me, besides being a stunning honeymoon destination, it could well be your potential wedding venue to begin with!

The hotel features nothing but suites (including a writer’s suite!) and the most affordable of them comes with sea views; I’d take that anytime!

9. Go on a glamorous camping experience at this en-suite tent – Tiarasa Escapes Glamping Resort (Bentong)

Charming doesn’t even begin to describe this place – an option that’s a little closer to Kuala Lumpur, one that’ll only require 45 minutes’ drive!

Yes, a honeymoon escape can get as simple as that when you can find such stunning locations within Malaysia. One of them is Tiarasa Escapes which features safari-style tents and treetop villas that give you a taste of Africa without having to fly overseas! Okay, not so Africa-like when it comes to the weather as it can get chilly but hey, we love a good escape from the Asian heat isn’t it?

Photo Via Asma.nasa, Triciaxlee, Mshannahchia, Deeecupps

As you walk through the almost-Amazonian-like forest where the stay is set in, it’ll be tough to be reminded that you’re still in Malaysia – the surroundings feel untouched and the air is fresh as it is nestled in the cool foothills, surrounded by fruit orchards.

In the middle, surrounded by the glamourous tents, you’ll find a free-form pool, making your stay that much more seductive until it’s time for the communal bonfire, held nightly from 7pm – the perfect occasion to keep yourself warm in your lover’s arms!

10. Get a glimpse of Bali – Kunang Kunang Heritage Villa (Langkawi)

Who ever thought of even staying at a heritage villa when in Langkawi? I mean, all that you picture about the island are probably beaches, resorts and seafood; that’s until you get to check out Kunang Kunang Heritage Villa – a hidden gem that lets you sleep in authentic century-old Malay houses that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a museum, an almost heritage site.

Now, this is absolutely not something for those looking for fancy, glitzy staycation; there’s no air conditioning (but they have in-room fans), rather it is if you want to experience simple life back in the days, with no stress and worry – very laid-back and down-to-earth!

12. A getaway 40 minutes’ drive from the city! – The Acres Resort (Bentong/Bukit Tinggi)

There are a few reasons why we believe that The Acres Resort is honeymoon-worthy.

First, its convenient location, because if you’re coming from KL, you’ll just have to hit the road for merely 40 minutes before you get to enjoy your nuptials (wink, wink!). Second, being nestled among the hills, you’ll be in for chilly weathers that call for unlimited cuddles with your lover!

Travel Writer

Aroused by raging rapids, perilous peaks and cheesecake. Beverley lives and breathes for travel and there is no way her wanderlust will ever be appeased. Born with feet in the water, many know her as the travel junkie, but feel free to refer to her as the luxury spots connoisseur or island specialist, both suit her very well. Her latest credit card statement could be proof of just how much she loves travelling the world. Besides collecting coins and notes from countries she visits, Beverley also collects tan lines!
